A specialty raw sugar that takes its name from the Demerara colony in Guyana, which was the original source of this type of sugar. It is normally medium brown in colour, the natural colour of cane sugar, different varieties can be more golden. It has a rich aroma and a crunchy texture and a mild molasses flavour, and can be enjoyed with coffee, cereal, sprinkled on fruit and as a decor on baked goods.
